Dilettante is a collection of songs I’ve written and recorded over the last 10 years or so.

 

I'm excited to share them and will be releasing them

in this space one at a time over the next couple of months. Welcome to week 7!

 

We could call it a record, an album, or a playlist.

 

All the tunes were produced and recorded in Canada in various locations; wherever Tim Thorney (the great!) has had his studio, Villa Sound, that’s where I’d go, from Toronto to the lovely Blue Mountains of Ontario.

The song for this week is "The Focus".

 

It guess it was a sort of arrow shot from my heart toward a friend who often seemed to have 

tough times in her life.

What came out in the song are things I may have wanted to say to her but didn't.

Because while I truly believe my own lyrics here-- that there is a certain amount of personal choice involved in being happy-- I also know that that simply isn't the case for some people, in some situations. I guess I just want it to be as easy as turning some little dial inside. I know I wished that for my friend.

She is no longer on the planet. In fact, she made her exit-- because cancer-- around this time 3 years ago, so I thought it would be appropriate to share this song here now.

​

I love her, think of her, and cherish our friendship everyday. Oh, yes-- I think the friendship is still going strong. In fact, she may kill me for posting this.
